ONE-WAY TICKET:
AUSTRALIA → CANADA

Dr. Jared Coyne, an experienced family doctor from Down-under, has joined our physician team in Prince Edward County.  He, his wife Meg, and their two young children have packed up their lives in Perth and moved to Picton.

Meg grew up in the County and is looking forward to familiarizing her family with her old stomping grounds.

Dr. Coyne will be taking over part of a practice from a physician retiring later this year. He’ll also be taking patients from the Health Care Connect wait list. Click here to register for Health Care Connect or dial 811.

Recruitment news

Highlights:

1.  750 PEC residents from Health Care Connect have been rostered with a family doctor since April 2024
2.  Dr. Coyne has arrived in PEC and is preparing to start his practice in Picton this fall
3. County Docs has joined the Eastern Ontario Physician Recruitment Alliance (EOPRA)

Because of our innovative Health Care Connect Premium (HCCP) program, we can report that 750 PEC have been attached to a family doctor. Perhaps more exciting is that there are still at least another 500 residents that are expected to be attached to a doctor within the next four months. Moreover, we still have two premiums left available, which means there is potential for another 500 patients to be rostered under this program. That would support a total of 1750 PEC residents finding a family doctor. WOW!

To support regional collaboration, County Docs has joined the Eastern Ontario Physician Recruitment Alliance (EOPRA).  This organization is one of five regional alliances collectively representing a physician recruitment alliance for all of Ontario. This more prominent presence allows us to take advantage of more national and international recruitment events. Pooling our resources with other municipalities in Eastern Ontario not only make sense financially, but also gives us a louder voice for advocacy and system change pertaining to physician recruitment in the province. For those looking for the recruitment stats this past quarter, we connected with 6 new leads and are currently following 36 leads in total. We consider 3 of these to be high potential.

Frequently Asked Question

Q: I heard there is a clinic available for PEC residents who don’t have a family doctor. How do I access this clinic?
A: Yes! If you don’t have a family doctor and you are a resident of PEC, you can access the Prince Edward Family Health Team’s Community Clinic on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This is by appointment only and for problem-specific care. It is not a walk-in clinic. Call 613-827-8775 for an appointment.
